How To Use Tourniquet
- Select an appropriate position about 5-10 cm above the planned injection site (usually on the arm) to wrap the tourniquet. Ensure the tourniquet is placed proximally, away from the injection site.
- Wrap the tourniquet tightly around the arm. The tourniquet should be tight enough to restrict venous return but not affect arterial blood flow. The pulse in the arm should still be palpable.
- Have the patient clench their fist, which helps the veins fill up and become more prominent, making it easier to insert the needle.
- Once the needle has successfully entered the vein, immediately release the tourniquet to restore normal blood flow. After releasing the tourniquet, ensure it does not interfere with the subsequent injection procedure.
